Foreign Nationals can be admitted in Canadian Day Schools from Kindergarten to grade 12. There are different types of K12 Schools in Canada; Day Cares, Primary schools. Elementary Schools and Secondary or High Schools.
Day Care centres are normally for pre Kindergarten children who have working parents. Children from a few months to age 4-5 can be admitted in day cares. Some day cares also accept older children during vacations or holidays.
Primary schools in Canada accept students JK (Junior Kindergarten), SK(Senior Kindergarten) up to grade 5.
Elementary Schools are upto grade eight.
High or Secondary Schools are from grade 9-12 (9-11 in Quebec).
Majority of Canadian children go to Public Schools. Though some opt for studies in Religious schools, private schools, boarding schools where students study some specialized subjects that have to meet the provincial requirements. Some students do study international curriculum like IB (International Baccalaureate).
Academic session in Canadian Schools runs from September through June. There are two weeks winter holidays in the third or fourth week of December and one week Spring holidays in mid March.
International students normally join Canadian Schools in September. However, some can also join in February.
