
Admission in Career Colleges:
In Canada there are Private Career colleges that operate across the country. They prepare Canadians and international students for a career through intensive training.
Career colleges are also DLIs but not all colleges are entitled for a PGWP.
Career Colleges in Canada prepare students in1-2 years for quick entry into employment in Canadian and international job market. They offer a wide variety of training ranging from Accounting, Business, IT, Health sciences, social sciences, etc. All programs offered in Canadian Community colleges are in demand in Canadian labour market.
International Students can study in Career Colleges for their Post Secondary Education. They have following Study options:
1. Certificate (1 year)
2. Diploma (2 years)
3. Graduate Certificate (1-2 years)
For Admission in Career colleges Students need to show 55% or higher marks in their high school diploma depending upon level of course they are joining. They are also required to show their English/French language proficiency depending upon their proposed institution. For admission in Certificate, Diploma and Advance Diploma programs, students need to show IELTS 6.0 with no module less than 5.5. For admission in Degree program or Graduate certificate, IELTS 6.5 with no module less than 6.0 is acceptable.
Some programs offered are equipped with 1-3 terms practical training called internship or CO-OP. Cooperative training offers the students to apply their theoretical knowledge and acquire hands on experience. This also gives them an opportunity to show their skills to the employer who may hire them for temporary or Permanent job, that will assist in their Canadian Permanent Residence application.
INTAKES: Majority of the Courses at Canadian Community Colleges start from September (Fall intake). Other popular programs also have a January(winter intake) and / or May (summer intake) as well.
Tuition Fee for International students in Community colleges ranges from C$15000 -20,000 per year, depending upon the course. Engineering and technology programs have a higher fee as compared to business and social sciences.
PGWP: All Career College programs are not eligible for a Post Graduate work Permit. Students must do due research in this regard as per their career plan. After studying eligible program/institution, International Students become eligible to apply for Post Graduate Work Permit. The duration of the work permit is from 8- 36 months, depending upon the duration of total studies in Canada (Currently upto 100% online studies are also considered to PGWP purpose upto December 31, 2021 due to COVID19)
VISA FOR FAMILY: International students studying in Career colleges may bring their spouse and children to Canada. However, their spouse may be restricted from work and children may not be entitled to free study in Canadian Public Schools.
